“It sounds almost human”

Almost daily, I get asked whether AI will be used at It’s Your Call’s B2B telemarketing service and the answer is no.  At times there is pushback about how fast and efficient it would be, but I always hear from these pushers, “It sounds almost human”.  And there is the problem.  Making a sale is about the personal connection that’s been made between the buyer and the seller.

To have a great telemarketing campaign, a great list of prospects needs to be had.  I know of companies that do list building with AI and the results have been great but I have yet to hear of a successful AI telemarketing campaign that doesn’t need human connection at some point.

We all know the “used car sales” stereotype. Being genuine is trait to have in the sales industry.  We don’t use “telemarketing scripts” because nobody wants to be read to them. Our callers have years of experience that allows them to think on their feet and know when they don’t have an answer. AI will give answers that may not be accurate because the nuances of language are misunderstood and come off as ingenuine.

I found this article interesting aside from the fact that it supports my point of view. ‘Nobody wants a robot to read them a story!’ The creatives and academics rejecting AI – at work and at home

So, when people ask if I’m going to integrate AI in our B2B telemarketing service my answer is, “Nope”.
